ROLAND MOURET REAL BRIDES

The past year has been a maze for all of us to navigate, especially when wedding planning and searching for the dream look. But, while plans might have changed - and big celebrations swapped for more intimate affairs - that ultimately didn't stand in the way of couples celebrating the love and commitment. We spoke to some real Roland Mouret brides to ask why they chose to wear Mouret for their special day and whether 2020 changed their outlook on what a wedding dress should be.

Jenny & Roberto married at the Marylebone Old Town Hall on 22nd September 2020. The bride wore the Galloway gown by Roland Mouret.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE ROLAND MOURET?

"I chose Roland Mouret for a few reasons, mainly because the quality was like no other. I had tried on a lot of dresses and nothing compared to the quality of this one, the double wool crepe was so luxurious. It ticked all my boxes: modern, simple and elegant. I fell in love with the curved neckline and a neckline I had not seen in a dress before."

WOULD YOU EVER RE-WEAR THE DRESS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE?

"I would love to re-wear this dress! I always had the idea of chopping it and turning it into a mini dress so I could wear it over and over."

DID 2020 CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT WHAT A 'WEDDING DRESS' SHOULD BE?

"My experience was amazing, especially in the midst of a pandemic. 2020 did not change my mind about what a wedding dress should be. To me a wedding dress has got to suit you as a person.
You can still find your dream dress during a pandemic. Order online, try on, return if it’s not the one and repeat until you do find the one! Take it in your stride and enjoy the process."

DID 2020 CHANGE YOUR MIND OF WHAT A 'WEDDING DRESS' SHOULD BE?

"2020 did change my perception of what a wedding dress should be, I veered more towards elegant and versatile to wear for other occasions."

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE ROLAND MOURET?

"I loved the edgy design and flattering cut..."

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE OF FINDING THE PERFECT LOOK WITH MOURET?

"I ordered a few different looks and this one stole the show. We had searched far and wide for the right option at multiple bridal boutiques prior to going this route. I wanted something less traditional than what I was finding in the stores."

WOULD YOU EVER RE-WEAR THE LOOK IN THE FUTURE?

"I certainly hope to!! The jumpsuit has gotten so many compliments and I love the way I feel in it."

Alexandra & Adam had two weddings, one in Quinta do Lago, Portugal and the other in Belgium. The bride wore Roland Mouret for both occassions, the Aldrich midi dress and the Arch dress.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE ROLAND MOURET?

"Our wedding was going to be a small, intimate celebration at my parents’ home in sunny Portugal, and I knew I didn’t want to wear a traditional wedding dress for this kind of event. I’d call myself a modern dresser, feeling most comfortable in simple, no-frills pieces. I wanted to feel comfortable and like myself, rather than feeling like I was playing fancy dress. Being short and curvy, I also often struggle finding things that fit me just right. This dress immediately ticked all my boxes: strapless, timeless yet modern and perfect to wear on a hot, sunny day. The fabric is stunning up close and gave it a bit more of a bridal feel. The zip-through detail at the back gave it a modern twist, and best of all - it had pockets. In the evening I threw a cashmere sweatshirt and sneakers and danced the night away.

A few months later I was looking for a second dress for the celebration back in Belgium which was a bit more formal and decided I wanted something completely different. Being curvy, I tend to avoid wearing tight-fitting dresses, but decided to try on the Arch dress on a whim and immediately knew it was the one. It hugged me in all the right places, the neckline was so stunning and it was completely different to my first dress. It felt like fate to be able to wear the same designer twice, yet in such different ways. I had no alterations done, as by a miracle, both dresses just fit my shape perfectly. "

HOW WAS YOUR EXPERIENCE OF FINDING THE PERFECT LOOK WITH MOURET?

"I simply looked for white dresses, spotted this one right away and bought it then and there. It arrived a day later and I never tried on another dress. It was 100% me.

Being a UK size 14, I had dreaded finding a ready-to-wear dress, as it is often difficult to find dresses to suit my shape. Both dresses made me feel comfortable and relaxed, but also made me feel feminine and strong. I never tried on any other dresses and I have no regrets. "

WOULD YOU RE-WEAR EITHER OF THE LOOKS AGAIN IN THE FUTURE?

"Absolutely. One of the reasons why I loved the Aldrich dress is because this is exactly the shape of dress I would have worn normally for a summer celebration. I don’t tend to wear white a lot, so I want to look into whether I can have it dyed to a different colour and if so, then hopefully I can wear it again soon!"

Lucy and Marc married on the 5th September 2020 at Marylebone Town Hall, London. The bride wore the Roland Mouret Ward trousers for the occassion.

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE ROLAND MOURET FOR YOUR SPECIAL DAY?
"Our main wedding had to be postponed due to Covid, where I'm planning on wearing a more traditional wedding dress. I wanted a different look for our legal ceremony. I was after something that felt luxurious and special but that could also wear again. I loved the idea of separates and knew Roland Mouret would tick all the boxes."

WHAT ARE THE POSITIVES YOU TOOK AWAY FROM HAVING A SMALLER WEDDING?

"It wasn’t exactly as we’d planned and that’s ok. Before Covid I think I was teetering on the edge of focussing on the wrong things as it so easy to become overwhelmed with guests, flowers and food choices. Slowing down and focussing on what meant the most to us allowed us to enjoy the day without the usual distractions of a big wedding and we got to spend a whole day with our parents and siblings together which very very rarely happens! There’s nothing like a pandemic to put things into perspective."

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES WHO'RE SEARCHING FOR THEIR WEDDING LOOK DURING THE PANDEMIC?

"As a bride-to-be it’s naturally going to be quite stressful if there is uncertainly around your wedding but I think the best advice I can give is to ride the wave and know that your day will happen, and that getting married during these times only makes it more special."
